Jane Addam's reading, The Public School and the Immigrant Child

Please plan to address one of the questions for your in-class writing next week:

Questions for next week:

1.) Write about the concept of “thinking in writing,” or process writing in ANY secondary classroom. What might the benefits be? What might the challenges be?

2.) Return to the writing you did in class today about a teacher. Describe the kinds of curriculum you saw at play in his/her classroom, and/or describe some of the Blueprint elements you located. What might be worth taking as your own?

3.) Respond to an idea you located in the readings for 2/8. What about this idea do you agree with? Disagree with? Explain.

4.) Pull out an interesting passage from an assigned reading and write about why that passage interests you, what it makes you think about, remember, care about, want to try, why it makes you angry, etc.

5.) Compare/contrast: Some of the literature assigned this week is historical. Write about how the ideology expressed in one or two of these pieces is still at play in education today. Write about an ideology that seems to have been “buried” with the past.
